Tricia Vitrano
As a painter I am aware of the role art making plays as a vehicle for communication and personal expression, and that it provides me with the means to tackle difficult subjects. I was inspired early on in my career by the simplicity and power of African, Southern Folk and Ancient art and created NancySin, an empowerment character or alter ego that reappears in various degrees of construction and deconstruction in many of my works to this day.
I experiment, investigate and utilize the power of this visual language to comment about climate, social issues and environmental subjects through painting, sculpture and mixed media works. The character NancySin allows me to bring some levity, humor and freedom of expression to heavy subject matter and above all to create with abandon.
